Burnie High school student geographers excel in 2022 Australian Geography Competition
Earlier this year Burnie High school students tested their Geography skills and knowledge against students from over 600 other Australian schools in the 2022 Australian Geography Competition.
A number of individual students performed very well in the competition. These students were congratulated and presented with their certificates at a recent whole school assembly.
Nearly 70,000 students from across Australia entered the Australian Geography Competition so the results give our school an external benchmark as to how our students are going in certain aspects of geography.
In the cognitive process category of Applying, Burnie High School Grade 8 participants answered 85% of the questions correctly compared to 58% correct for the rest of Australia. In the category of Reasoning our students scored 70% compared to 50% for the rest of Australia. Our Grade 7 students scored 62% in Reasoning compared to 43% for the rest of Australia.

Book Week
On Thursday, 25 August, Burnie High School participated in a dress up day to celebrate Book Week. This year’s Children’s Book Council of Australia theme was ‘Dreaming with Eyes Open’. Students and staff were invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book or movie character. Each home group voted on the top costume in the class, and these students entered the lunch time parade and judging in the gym. The Interact and Pride groups got into the spirit of the day, selling book themed cupcakes and truffles. Everyone looked fantastic in their costumes and should be proud of their efforts! Thank you to our local sponsors Twenty-Five-Nine, InterSport, The Foreshore, and Lemon Tree Providore for supporting Burnie High School. Congratulations to the below students!

Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
Attention: Parents and Carers of students in grade 7-10
Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
The wellbeing of our students is important to us - we want to hear how students feel, and think, about different things going on in their lives.
Those in Year/s 7-10 at Burnie High School will be taking part in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. The results from this survey will help us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing for learning. The more students who take part, the clearer our picture will be.
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey is part of the Department of Education’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy .
The details for the survey are:
When: Week 6-7 of Term 3
Who: 7-10
What do I need to do: You and your child don’t need to do anything. The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way.
A letter with more information was emailed to Parents/Carers for students, including Frequently Asked Questions and a form to sign and return to the school if you do not want your child to participate in the survey. In the instance where we have been unable email the letter, a copy has gone home with your child on 15 August.
If you would like further information, please contact the school office on 6431 2744.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure that all our learners are safe, feel supported and are able to flourish, so they can engage in learning.
